Doing What She Loves & Helping Others Feel Amazing- Alisha Smith owner of Jova Medical Aesthetics!

Welcome Alisha… our latest blog guest feature of inspiring women in business!

Tell everyone about you and your business!

Hello London! My name is Alisha and I am the owner of Jova Medical Aesthetics. I have
been nursing for 13 years, 8 of which I have been practising as a Nurse Practitioner. I
started my business in medical aesthetics because I love helping women (and men) feel
as amazing on the outside as they do on the inside. I offer cosmetic injectables (Botox
and Dysport), dermal fillers (Juvaderm, Restylane, Revanesse), Microneedling, PRP
Therapy for Skin and Hair Rejuvenation (Platelet Rich Plasma), Plasma Skin Tightening
(Fibroblast), Medical Grade Facials with Microdermabrasion, Medical Grade Chemical
Peels, Belkyra (Fat Dissolving Chin Sculpting treatment), IV Vitamin Infusions and Fat
Burning Injections.

I have always been interested in the cosmetic and aesthetics industry and I started my
business after looking into a Facial Rejuvenation course that offered nurses hands on
skills and certified training in cosmetic injectables. From there, I began to look at
additional treatments that I could offer my clients and I expanded my knowledge base
with complementary training courses. This business became my ‘Happy Medicine’ and
here I am!

When you were younger what  did you think you would do when you were older?

When I was young, I always wanted to be a nurse. I envisioned myself working with
infants and possibly in the NICU with pre-mature babies. However, after having my own
4 children, I knew it would be difficult for me to treat ill children so I have worked in
Primary Care where I am still able to care for beautiful little people in the form of well
baby and well child visits with the occasional cough and sniffle.

What are some of your biggest challenges owning a business?

I would say my biggest challenge is juggling my family, work and business. Every parent
can empathize with the struggles that can accompany family life and every parent
knows that caring for children is a full time job in itself. I try to balance my busy
schedule with self care and spending quality time with my husband and my children to
keep me grounded.

What does success mean to you?

To me, being successful in business means achieving my goals as a female entrepreneur.
Those goals are simple and include establishing a trusting relationship with each of my
clients and striving to achieve the highest standards and excellence in meeting their
unique needs.

Who is your biggest support?

My biggest support system has been my husband, and my children have been my little
cheerleaders. It always makes me smile when I receive referrals from my husband.

Do you have a favourite quote?

One of my favorite sayings, which is also featured on my brochure, is ‘Do what you love’.
I think it speaks volumes to how we should live our lives every day.

Is there anyone in business who is an inspiration to you?

I have had the honour and privilege of meeting so many amazing female entrepreneurs
since I started my business and I feel that each and every one of them have inspired me
to continue to work hard and achieve my goals. I truly feel that as women, we need to
support and promote each other because we all know first hand how hard owning your own business can be and we can all use a little love and kind words. We all have
something amazing to offer and its important to share that.

Tell us one interesting fact about yourself that most people would never guess!

This was the toughest question for me to answer and I had to ask my husband for help
lol. It’s funny because we said the same things, but back in the day I was a dancer (ballet
and contemporary) and I also modelled for a bit. I loved dancing but had to put it on the
back burner when I started my nursing degree at Western. Perhaps I should get back to
doing what I loved
